A. Lange & Söhne opens 8th US boutique in Boston
A. Lange & Söhne, the eminent watch manufactory from Glashütte in Saxony, Germany, is embarking on further expansion in America with the opening of its 8th boutique in the US market.
Located on the iconic Newbury Street and nestled closely by America's oldest public park, Boston Common, this 10 Newbury Street destination is featuring the brand’s new interior design concept. With notes of Bauhaus design principles, the company has succeeded in creating brand environments that fuse art, craftsmanship and technology in one, reflecting the brand’s values down to the tiniest detail.
At the entrance, guests are greeted by an elevated welcome table framed by storytelling environment featuring authentic tools that serve as the main touch point to gather. Above, a suspended sculptural outsize date further draws the eye upwards and invites more discovery. Upon journeying further into the boutique opposite floating wall vitrines, visitors are sure to notice the “Wall of Parts”. This wall-to-wall installation featuring hundreds of hand-finished watch components is a visual representation of the quest for the utmost quality and exemplifies the complexity of parts that found in A. Lange & Söhne movements.
The materials used for the interior design range from steel, demonstrating a technically modern construction, thru to natural stone, reminiscent of the hues of the Ore Mountain region in Eastern Germany, where the manufactory is based. Solid materials, clear lines and elaborate details recall the manufactory's values. At the same time, it reflects the clear structured functionality, spatial effect and ultimate craftsmanship that are to be found in every A. Lange & Söhne movement.
“As one of Germany's most traditional watch brands, we are thrilled to have found a new home in one of the most historically rich cities in the United States”, explains Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid. “With this new location we are not only further increasing our commitment to the continuously growing number of watch connoisseurs who take a keen interest in A. Lange & Söhne, we are also delighted to offer an elaborately designed setting that reflects the soul of our manufactory and allows you to immerse yourself in the art of Saxon fine watchmaking.”
About A. Lange & Söhne
Dresden watchmaker Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the cornerstone of Saxony’s precision watchmaking industry when he established his manufactory in 1845. His precious pocket watches remain highly coveted among collectors all over the world. The company was expropriated after the Second World War, and the name A. Lange & Söhne nearly vanished. But in 1990, Walter Lange, Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s great-grandson, ventured to start over again. Today, Lange crafts only a few thousand wristwatches, mainly in gold or platinum, per year. They are endowed exclusively with proprietary movements that are lavishly decorated and twice assembled by hand. With 70 manufacture calibres developed since 1990, A. Lange & Söhne has secured a top-tier position among the world’s finest watch brands. Its greatest successes include brand icons such as the LANGE 1, the first regularly produced wristwatch with an outsize date, and the ZEITWERK, with its precisely jumping numerals. Extraordinary complications such as the ZEITWERK MINUTE REPEATER, the TRIPLE SPLIT and the so far most complicated model, the GRAND COMPLICATION, introduced in 2013 in a limited edition of six, represent what the manufactory always strives for: to drive the traditional art of watchmaking to ever-new heights. The sporty yet elegant ODYSSEUS, introduced in 2019, marked the start of a new chapter for A. Lange & Söhne.
